The World Has Many Critics
Hebrews 10:24 (KJB) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.
Undoubtedly, many of you will agree with me when I say this world is filled with critics, at work in saved and lost hearts alike. It is not necessary to look very hard for finding a person willing to critique everything you say and do. Don’t get me wrong, while it is important to be discerning and assess ourselves, it is not what Jesus tells us about the nature of His love and in relating to and in serving others.
His message for us is to provoke unto love and good works in our relationships with our brethren and lost and wounded hearts rather than be self-serving or provoking others with our pointed witty sarcasm or cheap verbal shots while critically pointing our finger rudely at obvious spiritually ill choices they have made in life. Anotherwards, don’t kick them when they are down.
No, true unconditional love incites others to be sincere servants of Christ towards others. It can greatly encourage a lost or wayward person right where they are and point them to rely upon the finished work of Christ. It liberates them to serve Christ without merit and to mature in their faith, rather than to continue to wither, wobble, and wallow spiritually lost amid accumulating mud of this world.
Provoking another soul to choose love and good works over and above world based criticism and finger pointing helps each person to be more spiritually rounded and bring opportunities for lost or wayward hearts to meet personally with Christ. Placing faith in God as the foundation of service brings opportunities for lost souls to be lifted above the restrictions and “spiritual quicksand” at work about them in this world and to reach eternal heights.
