There Am I
Matthew 18:20 (KJV) For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Jesus’s message is very clear for us in this verse. Where two or three people gather in the name of Jesus Christ, He is with them. Now, you will find that some people tie this statement directly to the church or even a building housing a church. However, that is not the correct message.
Indeed you know that this statement was given to the disciples and others for comfort in ancient times before the death of Jesus Christ upon Calvary. It is meant to relieve fear and anxiety then and now concerning the constant presence of Jesus Christ in any situation of life. Though at the time, this message was not understood, after Calvary, the continual presence of Jesus Christ is more appreciated by humbled hearts.
Where two or three people are gathered in the name of Jesus Christ, whether it be in a home, a business, a vehicle, on a plane, or wherever – He promises to be in the center of their gathering. This year, with changes made to many church gatherings because of concern about the spread of a virus, many services were moved to online only for a time. It is then that this promise took on present particular importance because of the shifting times in which we live today.
Jesus Christ promises to meet with us, His gathered spiritual family, today and tomorrow. This promise is a heart message that sincere professing Christians can count on throughout time as they choose to gather in His name.
