They Called for His Death
John 1:10-11 (KJV) He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
It is true that the crowd, even God’s own people, the Jewish people, called for the death of His Only Son, Jesus Christ. This call for His rejection and His death is an ancient example of “group think” in action. Just the week prior, Jesus rode into town on a donkey, and the crowd waved palm leaves and was glad for His arrival. A week later, likely, these same people gathering again in the streets called for the death of Jesus on the cross among two other criminals and the release of a confined offender.
The truth is that it was not just this crowd who rejected Christ. The moment Jesus’s ministry began, some people denied His message and refused to hear His words. This rejection coincides with the prophecy about Jesus from the beginning and sprinkled by God throughout the canon of scripture.
Yes, some people refused to hear and apply His truth during Jesus Christ’s earthly ministry. Some gathered to call for His death on the cross, as was prophesied since the beginning of time, as events occur according to the will and way of God, His Father.
