They Drew Jason In Front of The Rulers
Acts 17:6-9 (KJV) And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also; Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus. And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things. And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.
These religious authorities were hot on the trail of the Apostle Paul and his ministering associate Silas. However, they were unable to find either man. Instead of ending up empty-handed, they latched onto Jason instead. This latching on was rather a dragging of Jason in front of far-reaching political leaders who rule with a mob mentality with a slanted agenda.
The purpose of this impromptu meeting was to confront the teaching about Jesus Christ and the Truth of God. Why, because this soul-winning teaching was an afront to the earthly standing of these hard-hearted political figureheads who knew not Jesus. The authority and power of Jesus were spreading about in the hearts of the people of whom they ruled, and this truth was worrisome and produced great dismay by these political leaders. This God-centered teaching impeded their authority. Left to flourish, it would undoubtedly produce rebellion against their position and rule.
Though they had not yet caught up with Paul and Silas, these leaders were making a bold political statement by dragging this ministerial associate Jason in front of leaders. The spread of the gospel message is an insurrection against their power and position on this earth, for, with lost souls, these men had no vision of the will and work of God, only harboring fear and disdain for truth as they led in this world.
