Thou Shall REMEMBER, Lest You FORGET
Deuteronomy 8:18-20 (KJB) But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day. 19 And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish. 20 As the nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of the LORD your God.
Forgetting God, overlooking God, ignoring God, and the like is a dangerous mindset and state of heart to wear. Ill heart conditions and empty heads are rampant in this world. Men and woman of God, with fit hearts, sojourn among many sick hearts who are walking dead as this wicked world waxes worse and worse.
Spiritual sickness has always been the work of the devil who prides himself on shuttering eyes and ears and unfavorably disturbing any attempt to awaken the spiritual state of hearts in this world. A healthy heart loves God, hears God, and desires to serve and savor him. An ill heart always savors and serves the god of this world for he or she is unable to recognize God or hear and perceive truth.
A man cannot exist between the two opposing spiritual states, his heart is either spiritually dead and dormant dismissing the law of God. Or a heart has been quickened alive unto remembrance of spiritual things and awareness of laws of God. There is no middle ground or gray area to occupy between these two spiritual extremes. A man either remembers God, or he chooses not.
God’s Word is clear, in the above verse and others like it, that mankind is to REMEMBER God. Sadly, it only takes one generation to FORGET God. It seems as if this world is far along on an avenue of forgetting things of God. This wide sweep of dark hearts not only personally affects mankind about you, but utter wickedness is widespread among all nations of this world.
God gave us laws of life and rules of civilization for our learning, understanding, and need of His grace. Though we cannot measure up to His perfect law on our own, if we forget He is the only one who set us free, both personally and nationally, we will be forever entrenched in the bondage of sin rather than enjoying perpetual freedom and mercy in Christ.
