Thou Shalt Not
Exodus 23:1-2 (KJB) Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness. 2 Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment.
God was speaking to the nation of Israel here in the first ten verses of this twenty-third chapter of Exodus. However, that pointed out, today, we can take away some vital truths to guide speech and conduct and in being becoming to the Lord rather than to align with the dark camp of the god of this world.
God desires that each of us cling to truth, and when we speak, allow truth to come out of our mouth. God hates lies and smear campaigns. That is right; God hates fabrications. God must separate Himself from any such falsities for He is pure and spotless and not marred by the presence of any sin, whether it be lying or otherwise.
God is sincere in directing and decreeing us saying, “thou shall not sin…”
This statement does not say, please do not sin. Or try to do better about sin in your life. No, God says absolutely, do not sin.
False reports of any kind stand apart from God and align with the corrupt nature at work in this world. Whether you act or speak, God declares we are not to give a false report or support any smear campaign against another or choose to follow evil at work in this world.
