Unique Gifts For Baby Jesus
Matthew 2:11 (KJV) And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
Sometime after the birth of Jesus Christ, God’s Word is not specific about the timing; men came Eastward bearing gifts. Indeed, you know that these were not just any men; God calls them wise men (Matthew 2:1). Though these wise men often are represented in this world as a trio, God’s Word does not tell us the exact number.
Secondly, please note that these men came to see baby Jesus, not a barn or a stable, but this scripture verse places Mary, Joseph, and Jesus in a house. This detail certainly could put them at home at the time of this visit; however, again, not enough facts are recorded to define their exact location, and knowing this information is not necessary to take God’s account in faith.
Another thing to take note of is that these men stopped upon seeing baby Jesus and immediately and worshiped at His feet. This act signals that these wise men instantly comprehended the divine nature of Jesus Christ upon meeting Him. Further, the gifts that they brought; gold, frankincense, and myrrh, also hold special meaning in signifying Jesus Christ as Prophet, Priest, and King and pointing to His royalty.
These wise men came to Jerusalem to visit the newborn King, Jesus Christ. Not only that, but they worshipped Him and presented Him with costly gifts fit for a Priest, Prophet, and King with one an ingredient used in ancient times when preparing a body for burial pointing to His coming sacrificial death.
