We are only going to spend a brief amount of time here because Jesus Christ did not spend a great amount of time in His tomb. His disciples did not remain here long upon finding it empty this early morning on the third day.
We will take a few moments to gather a few timeless truths and treasures found inside the tomb that the Bible has recorded for us about this life changing spiritual event!
Jesus Christ was placed in a borrowed tomb upon visible proof He had succumbed to death. His death was verified by Roman soldiers along with many other witnesses. Not only was His death proven, but His lifeless body was lovingly prepared by two friends for burial with an anointing of spiced cloths.
Finally, a large imposing rock was rolled in place by soldiers to seal the entrance to the tomb barring entrance by thieves and vandals who might desire to raid and plundering His grave. Certainly, there was never any thought given the supernatural ability of Jesus Christ to walk away from this sealed tomb.
However, as you know, nothing can stop the will of God.
There was not a thing that any man could have done differently that would have prevented Jesus Christ from simply walking away from His secured tomb. A huge rock could not keep Him sealed inside this grave! Jesus Christ rose to life, just as God’s prophets foretold, early in the morning on the third day. Even His grave clothes were abandoned but delicately folded, just as if He was still lying within them. Rather than be found torn apart in shreds as would thieves likely discard them in a rush to remove His body from the tomb.
Most tombs are a place of sadness and a reminder of death, but this bare tomb of Jesus Christ prompts us to focus on celebrating life. His tomb is not a stopping place or an ending. It is a reminder of His heralded supernatural resurrection from natural death unto supernatural life. It provides proof of eternal life and an opportunity for every man and woman of God to live forever!
Today God continues to shine forth His light through the power and spiritual nature of His threefold trinity; The Father, Son, and Spirit!
The nature of Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection are an eternally illuminated spiritual billboard forever advertising the gift of eternal life from God.
Physical death for the man and woman of God, should stir their heart with joy and eager anticipation of an eternal reunion with God, brothers, and sisters in Christ, and bring forth spiritual rewards. However, for the unsaved person, death brings fear and internal anxiety of the unknown. It reminds the unregenerate man of his frailty and of the truth that he will not live forever.
