What Exactly Did God Record About Life, Death, and Disease?

Many in this world would venture to say that everything is getting better and better by the moment!  This blanket statement is meant to include the overall state of man’s physical health.  Medical professionals, Scientists, and others point out there are always new and up and coming medical developments, procedures, cures, and treatments available for a wide array of physical sickness, cancer, and diseases prevalent in this world.  Yes, it is true that a lot of physical ailments, once deadly to the life of mankind, can now be vaccinated against, maintained, and cured.

Now, hold on a minute…. This sounds like a great statement to adopt concerning the overall state of the health and wellbeing of mankind.  It overwhelmingly points towards a brighter future for many who are stricken with debilitating and chronic diseases or facing certain death from a sudden onset of an incurable disease.

But slow down here a moment, did you know that this account does not necessarily line up with what the Bible has recorded about life, death, and disease for our understanding and greater learning?  Let’s be a Berean (Acts 17:11) and look at few verses from God’s Word:

Genesis 3:17-19 (KJB)   And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;  18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;  19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

Ever since the introduction of sin into this world mankind has been faced with the onset of death.  Did you know that since sin, as soon as a man is born, he begins the process of physically dying?  From the very moment, mankind is born physical death and spiritual death is both expected and certain at a time of God’s own choosing.

Consider that mankind lived for a much greater length of years in ancient biblical history than he lives today.  Methuselah, the oldest man to ever live, was well over nine hundred years old.  He was the last to die before the first rain came to this earth. Mankind now has a life expectancy of fewer and fewer years as both man and the planet continues to age and decay.

The presence of sin in this world has a solid connection to the spiritual condition of our heart, our physical well-being, and the state of this world.  The Bible tells us this creation groans (Romans 8:20-22) because it is in a continual and perpetual state of waxing worse and worse (2 Timothy 3:13).  The deteriorating state found in this world is encompassed by many things, including the waning of both spiritual and physical ills.

Do you understand that this deterioration process is always found to be true in spite of any advances made in Science and medicine?  Why, because God made it this way from the beginning.  The tree of life was not meant for mankind’s consumption.  Partaking of this fruit, in disobedience to God, swiftly ushered in sin through many areas, affecting both spiritual sickness and physical sickness.

Here is biblical proof that God created man in the beginning without the presence of sin or sickness calling them “good”:

Genesis 1:31 (KJB) And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Yes, it is true that mankind continually breaks new ground in the treatment of disease and sickness.  Or have they?  God has always been the Great Physician and has always had supernatural power. God has always been a miracle working and healing God.  There are hundreds of scripture verses which can prove this is true for both.

The verses in John 5:1-9 record one instance Jesus Christ profoundly heals a man who had an infirmity for over thirty years and was waiting to be placed in the stirring waters of the pool of Bethesda to personally experience their healing properties in his life; both spiritually and physically.

Sin has dynamically changed both the “spiritual flavor” and “physical nature” of all ills present in this world.  What was once pronounced as “good” by God is now cursed by sin and death.  God did not usher in sin but allowed it to happen.  Job is a good biblical example of the limited power of satan by God and sin’s devastating effects to man’s physical stature and spiritual life.

God has permitted satan and his dark minions to rule and reign for a time in this world.  This brought many instances of both physical and spiritual disease and sickness.  Mankind may have found some relief from disease through the development of medical and Scientific cures but certainly, you understand that the power over sickness and death; both spiritually and physically, always rests with God.

The Bible tells us in Revelation 1:18 that the power over death and life is all of God, having nothing to do with anything of mankind:

Revelation 1:18 (KJB)   I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Secondly, the Bible tells us that all things created are of God and of God in several verses including these from the book of Colossians:

Colossians 1:16-17 (KJB)   For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:  17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Lastly, every person should consider getting his own heart condition spiritually aligned with God before trying to “fix” or find solutions for his medical and physical ills.  The Bible tells us in many places how we should strive to run our spiritual race (Matthew 6:25-34, 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, 2 Timothy 4:7-8, Hebrews 12:1-2).

Did you know that choosing to move in God’s spiritual direction serves to align every other thing into its proper place both here on earth and in the eternal realm?

As you sojourn on this earth strive to be longsuffering and to live without worrying, or considering so much about the physical aspect of your race because it is only temporary in nature, but strive for the assurance of profiting from treasures of an eternal nature:

1 Timothy 6:19 (KJB)   Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

First and foremost, mankind has been bought with a price, and getting our heart condition right with God places us in right spiritual position with God.  Getting this right will also serve to benefit us in any physical ailments.  If not here on earth, our physical ills will be resolved forever in the eternal realm.  We will have no more tears, no pain, and a new spiritual body!

The practice of taking care of what ails us first physically, without having a personal relationship with God, does nothing for us spiritually, and certainly will not last for all eternity.  Physical and spiritual death will certainly come to all who ignore the call to get their heart spiritually right with God.  Right fellowship with God will certainly benefit the man and woman of God forever both on this earth and forevermore.
