What If We Were All Ears?
1 Corinthians 12:17 (KJB) If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
This verse is one of a series of scripture verses which present the importance of each member serving both individually and collectively within the church. A church is not reliant upon all eyes, or all ears, but it is vital that there are many people with varying abilities and talents all used for bringing honor and glory to God.
If all the members had the same exact ability, then the church would be lacking in other critical areas. Not everyone can collect and count the money. Many people cannot or will not sing up front in the music ministry, not every person is willing and able to teach children, or only a hand full have the time and desire to clean the building. Yet all people can sow seeds of the gospel message when they walk out the doors of the church and enter back into the world as Sunday services wind down.
You see, it takes a myriad of talent and service to make a functioning church that sincerely serves God, the congregation, and most importantly are able and willing to be a billboard and biblical library for God in this world.
