What Is Your Life?
James 4:14 (KJB) Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Often a person can be high minded, thinking he knows exactly what will happen today, tomorrow, and far into the future. His life is a “cookie cutter life,” one that is all planned, prepared, and rolled out just exactly how he likes!
However, the truth is that none of us can place God’s will in a box. Nobody knows what will happen in his or her life the very next moment. A person can be alive at this moment and gasping for our last breath in the next. There is no such thing as a purposely prepared life.
The Bible tells us that life is like a vapor. A fine mist that is here for a moment and gone the next. The reality is we have no clear promise about what will happen even in the next moment. However, a child of God can rest peacefully in the truth that God already knows our entire life story. He knows us before we are born into this wicked world. He knows us in the exact time and day of our physical death. He is ultimately in control of both (Revelation 1:118).
Take some time right now to pause and consider the truth that your next moment could be your last on this earth. Recognizing this truth in your heart and mind should drive you to seek to do God’s will today, before it is too late, and you physically vanish away from this earth.
