When It Is Convenient
Acts 24:24-25 (KJB) And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ. 25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
Many people fall into a dark corridor of “all about me” spiritual abyss opting to choose immediate self-gratification rather than indulging in God gratification. Pleasing themselves today rather than choosing to please God according to His will and timing. Giving glory and honor to God often requires longsuffering and patience in the midst of opposing winds or a brewing spiritual storm.
This verse proves the point that putting spiritual things off until tomorrow is nothing new under the sun. Choosing self over serving God is a natural reaction for a lost man or woman as they estimate that they have plenty time left in the future (of their own choosing) to acknowledge and serve God.
What it really boils down to is making the choice for knowing God whenever it is convenient and palatable for them, rather than according to the will and way of God for their life. Often this kind of person will never get his heart right with God because the time is never right.
The truth is, by reasoning and relying upon their own emotions and feelings, rather than reacting to the calling of God and the prodding of His Holy Spirit upon their heart makes it all about them and nothing to do about God.
Those who choose to put God first recognize that it is all about God and nothing to do about them. The dark spiritual abyss of serving self will lead a man or woman straight to hell in the eternal realm while every child of God is promised to enjoy sweet fellowship with God forever.
