Wisdom of David

Wisdom of David

Psalm 119:98-100 (KJB) Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. 99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. 100 I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.

Some of you may peer into the life of David and see extraordinary wisdom in many of his life events, going from a lowly laboring shepherd to an eventual successful reign as king.  You may consider that he was a highly intelligent man, with much more intelligence and spiritual sense than perhaps you will ever have at work in your life.

While it is true that David was smart, we must consider that he was God-smart, filled with godliness, and operated not according to his own aptitude, but according to the wisdom and direction of God.  While we are at it, we also must reflect upon why God increased his understanding.

Here is the real reason David was often successful and smarter than his enemies:

Because I keep thy precepts…” this vital truth is presented at the end of these two verses and gives us the answer for David’s far-reaching insight.  This short peek into his life and heart condition does not mean that David, at times, did not fail or flounder in tough moments of life, but overall, David was a fruitful servant of God and successful in his many endeavors.

David did not succeed on this earth on his own accord; God was at work at the helm of his life.

Each of us must come to an understanding that we, too, can serve the same God that David did.  We, also, can choose to learn and apply His wisdom to work and will in our life.  We can elect to keep God’s precepts and learn to use His knowledge for attaining lasting success as we serve God in this wicked world and for all eternity.
